Posted on Friday, April 11, 2008 - 02:00 PM

Online Gay TV Channel Village TV will auction an affiliate station on eBay to benefit Amnesty International Sunday, May 4 to help combat human rights abuses by anti-gay governments and factions throughout the world.

Gay TV Station to be Auctioned on eBay

Village TV, the first ever continuously streaming 24 hour gay video TV channel on the internet, has announced plans to auction off ownership of one of its affiliate stations as part of a special auction on eBay to benefit Amnesty International. The auction will take place on Sunday, May 4 (8:00 PM Central) and is being featured as part of the company's current expansion which will culminate in a massive re-launch by November of this year.

Located on the web at www.villagetv.com, Village TV has quickly become the frontrunner in Internet television designed specifically to meet the entertainment and informational needs of gay audiences everywhere. The idea for this one-of-a-kind auction is the brainchild of Village TV Founder and President, Corey Chambers, who, upon hearing about the state-sanctioned massacre of what leaders throughout the Islamic world refer to as the 'Immorals'--Homosexual men and teenage boys who, according to Islamic law, are an abomination before Allah, felt something needed to be done and urgently.

"I don't believe my own struggles with being gay in this country can even compare with those of anyone facing death for their sexuality, as is happening throughout Iran, Iraq and beyond," Chambers pronounces, adding "As someone involved in the gay media, we need to recognize our obligation to fight for this cause - it really is an overwhelming matter of life and death for far too many on this planet!"

Thus Chambers formulated a plan to turn his concerns into action. Since Village TV is currently offering local "virtual TV stations" to buyers interested in becoming more involved in the business of gay internet television, he concluded that one such affiliate should be reserved for auction on e-bay with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefiting Amnesty International--the organization long known for its dedication to fighting human rights abuses across the globe.

Village TV's affiliate program offers buyers the opportunity to purchase their own local affiliate Village TV "station" to serve one of 40 of the top major metropolitan markets throughout the US, Canada and the UK. In additional to gaining broadcast access to all of Village TV's myriad of diverse and uncensored programming, those who operate these stations are also given the chance to create programs of unique interest to their own local communities, while still sharing in the advertising revenues specific to their area. The affiliate station chosen to be auctioned off will cover the Minneapolis-St. Paul market because, in Chamber's words, "it represents Middle America, and has a rich heritage of philanthropy." He explains that this will also allow gay-oriented businesses and organizations in Minneapolis-St. Paul area to reach their local community with cost-effective TV commercials and public service announcements. As part of the package, the winning bidder will also receive lifetime web hosting and support from Village TV--something which, over time, could equal upward of $500,000 in value.

In addition to his pioneering work involving gay internet television, Chambers also has a long and prosperous background with eBay. In fact, he holds the record for obtaining the highest average sale per item as an eBay Power Seller. This auction in particular will be very exciting because it will start at one cent to give everyone a chance to bid and possibly own a gay TV station of their very own. "The station could sell anywhere from a penny to a half million dollars," he says with characteristic enthusiasm.
