Spirituality/Paganism & Magick: Harm None and Follow Your Heart by Carol Lynn Browning

Posted on Monday, March 03, 2008 - 03:46 AM

Being a Wiccan is wonderful and knowing the two most common beliefs within our tradition helps us find love and live a happy and healthy life. That is what these two beliefs do, they helps us understand that when we take responsibility for our actions we can achieve all of our desires.

Harm None and Follow Your Heart

by Carol Lynn Browning

One of the best parts of being Wiccan is that we all follow our own path. However, there are a couple of common beliefs that, as Wiccans, we live by to make our lives happy and healthy.

"Bide within the Law you must, in perfect Love and perfect Trust."

You see for me, Wicca is about Love. It is about using our love to produce magic. When you work your spells, if you do it with love only good can happen. Love is the strongest emotion we have and will produce your desires, if you use it with the intention as the Wiccan Rede was created.

This is the first and most basic rule of all Wicca. "An ye harm none, do what ye will" This means no harm to yourself, enemies or anyone!

It means even if you have a sick friend, you need to ask their permission before performing any magic to heal them. Doing positive magic for another person who doesn't want it or who isn't ready for the results is manipulative and harmful. If they do not desire your help then you must abide by their wishes.

You see, using your Wiccan powers and energy has a series of cause and effects. Everything you do (cause) will produce your desires (effect). You need to make certain that what you desire is truly what you want. Plus, you must understand that what you do will effect others around you.

It is known as a ripple effect. Kind of like a pebble being tossed into the water. What you do for yourself or to others will effect more than just you or the others, and be aware, it works for both good or bad.

Basically it means, if you do something good for you, it will probably have some effect on someone in your life. In turn that person will do good and effect others, but, it doesn't stop there. What happens is that next person will do something good in turn it will help someone else. Each time this good energy is passed on it will be building.

What is great about that is all the good you started will return to you three-fold! Now that is powerful magic.

This brings me to tell you about the three-fold truth.

It is a time honored law of return or the three-fold truth. What it means is that any energy that you send out, any power, spell or potion you create, will come back to you multiplied three times the strength that it was when it started.

Some believe that it will come back multiplied somehow; others believe it will be multiplied by three. So, those that ignore the Wiccan Rede will receive three times in negative consequences. But, those who follow the Wiccan Rede and send out energy that does no harm will receive three times that in positive energy.

These two rules are the base of all Wiccan tradition, allowing you to take responsibility for your actions and use your energy and power wisely, because what you do can effect the entire world.
